CBMM Seeks Volunteers

CBMM_StateoftheOyster_250x300px_EOAnnapolisThe Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) in St. Michaels, MD is seeking volunteers to assist with on-the-water activities, as well as critical support functions in the Museum Store and administrative offices.New volunteers join an active corps of 200 participants, and are treated to educational and social opportunities throughout the year.

Volunteers are needed to serve as Captains and crew aboard CBMM’s passenger buyboat, Mister Jim. Participating Captains take part in a three-part training program, pass a physical agility review, participate in a drug screening program, and complete a one-on-one screening with the boatyard manager. Volunteer Captains must also hold a current, 50-ton USCG Captain’s license to participate.

Museum Store volunteers are also needed, and are asked to commit up to four (4) hours of weekly volunteer time. Store volunteers have a comfortable knowledge of basic mathematics, an aptitude for the computer, and enjoy working with the public in providing courteous service. All candidates will receive hands-on training prior to any volunteer shifts. Museum Store proceeds benefit the people served by CBMM’s educational, boat restoration, and exhibit programs.

CBMM is also seeking two volunteer receptionists who will bring excellent verbal communication skills, and the ability to enthusiastically interact with the public to the museum. Weekly available shifts are Thursdays from 1 to 5pm and Fridays from 9am to1pm, with a one-year commitment needed.

Volunteer opportunities with CBMM’s membership team are also available, and include assisting with mailings, phone calls, and other administrative tasks. The weekday schedule is flexible, with a weekly or bi-weekly commitment of at least 2-4 hours desired.
