On November 12, 2012 and anonymous caller contacted the Anne Arundel County Public School system regarding a possible inappropriate relationship between a Broadneck high school teacher and a student. As a result, Anne Arundel County public schools began an immediate investigation into the allegations and placed the teacher on administrative leave.
During the course of the investigation school investigators interviewed students and learned that a female teacher in question may have had an inappropriate relationship with a male student who graduated from high school in the spring of 2011. At that juncture detectives from Anne Arundel County Police Department’s criminal investigation division assumed responsibility for the investigation. Working closely with the school system, detectives conducted several interviews and learned from former students that he and the teacher formed a friendship during his senior year. At one point during the fall semester the teacher began sending the male student sexually explicit text messages. From there, the teacher and a student began talking regularly on the phone.
Further investigation revealed that the teacher and student continued to exchange sexually explicit text messages and images at the request of the teacher before the student was 18 years old. Additionally, it was learned that the teacher and student were engaged in sexual activity; however it was determined to have taken place after the student turned 18 years old. Detectives worked closely with the Anne Arundel County state attorney’s office and after consultation, an arrest warrant was applied for and obtained on March 12, 2013 charging the suspect Erin Nicole Thorne of 719 Rusack Court in Arnold Maryland with one count of display obscene matter to a minor and one count of child porn solicit subject. The suspect turned herself into the Eastern District police station at around 1 PM today
