Anne Arundel County Farmer’s Markets Gearing Up

Fruits and veggiiesAnne Arundel County’s farmers’ markets will kick off its warm weather schedule in April.  Area farmers and food producers will again offer locally grown fresh produce, baked goods, meats, eggs, and plants.  The Anne Arundel County farmers’ market on Riva Road and Harry S. Truman Parkway in Annapolis starts its regular season schedule on Saturday, April 6 from 7 a.m. to noon until December 21.  This location will be open an additional Tuesday from May 28 to October 29. A more detailed schedule for other locations is below.

In addition, families and residents who participate in the WIC or Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition programs should know that their cards and checks are accepted at all county farmers’ markets.   However, customers participating in Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) may only use their EBT, SNAP and Independence cards at the Westfield Annapolis Farmers Market.  The market is offering a dollar for dollar match up to $10 for all WIC and SNAP customers, while funding lasts.

“Giving Anne Arundel residents access to fresh fruits and vegetables helps us to make the healthy choice the easy choice,” said Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman. “I encourage all our neighbors to ‘get fresh, buy local,’ by taking advantage of our farmers’ markets during the warm weather season.”

Farmers’ markets continue to be a good opportunity for local agribusiness to market their products directly to consumers.  Anne Arundel farmers’ markets can typically have as many as 40 vendors participate each season.  New vendors are welcome to participate in the market and should contact the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation’s agriculture business development associate Lisa Barge at (410)222-7410 or by email at [email protected]
