An Enchanted Evening

asologo_interiorThe Annapolis Symphony Orchestra continues its 2012-2013 season at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts on Friday, April 5, and Saturday, April 6, at 8 PM. Under the musical direction of Maestro José-Luis Novo, the ASO will be accompanied by violinist, Markus Placci for these concerts which will feature Francis Poulenc’s Les Biches (The Does) Suite, Pablo de Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen (Gypsy Airs), Maurice Ravel’s Tzigane and Igor Stravinsky’s Petrushka.

Praised for having “a magnificent personality, a superb energy, a total command and an extremely convincing taste” (La Libre Belgique), young Italian violinist Markus Placci is enjoying a growing international reputation that has already brought him solo appearances throughout Europe and the United States.

Winner of the prestigious “XXVI Vittorio Veneto Competition” on a unanimous vote of the Jury presided by Maestro Bruno Giuranna, Mr. Placci is also the recipient of numerous other international awards and prizes such as the “Brahms Preis” and “Baden-Baden Philarmonie Foundation-Carl Flesch Preis” in Germany, and the “Jules C. Reiner Violin Prize” at Tanglewood. He was a top prize winner at the “Washington International Competition 2006.”

Mr. Placci has recently been appointed as Violin Faculty at The Boston Conservatory.

Markus Placci is the son of two musicians and makes his home between Bologna, Italy and Boston.

Adult tickets start at $25 and student tickets are $10. Tickets for these concerts can be purchased through the ASO website at www.annapolissymphony.org, by calling 410-263-0907, or by stopping by the ASO Box Office in room 204 at Maryland Hall in Annapolis, Monday through Friday, 9:30am – 5:30pm.

All concert ticket holders are invited to attend a free and informative pre-concert lecture in the auditorium at 6:45pm before the concert. Led by British pianist and lecturer Dr. Rachel Franklin, these entertaining talks enhance the concert experience by providing historical and insightful perspectives on the music to be played. Lectures are sponsored by Bank of America.

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra features 70 professional musicians who perform a variety of symphonic music for audiences of all ages. Additionally, the non-profit organization provides educational programs through its partnerships with local schools, as well as various other community outreach efforts. The ASO’s vision is to be the best regional orchestra in the country, recognized as a jewel in the Washington/Baltimore area.
