For the past 50 years, Grammy Award-winning folk singer/songwriter Tom Paxton has been entertaining his nationwide fan base with enduring music such as “Ramblin’ Boy,” The Marvelous Toy,” and “The Last Thing on my Mind.” Now, fans in the Chesapeake region will have a chance to see him live when Paxton performs at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, February 23, at the Children’s Theatre of Annapolis.

The concert also gives community members a chance to support a local performing arts organization, as a portion of the tickets will benefit CTA, an organization offering theatre education and performing opportunities to thousands of children in central Maryland. This special venue affords music fans to enjoy Paxton’s music in an intimate space and truly connect with the musician.

If Paxton’s name isn’t instantly familiar to you, it’s only because some of his most famous works have been recorded and made famous by other musicians, such as Johnny Cash, Simon & Garfunkel, Peter, Paul and Mary, The Kingston Trio, Willie Nelson, Bobby Darin and Arlo Guthrie, whose successful fundraising concert at CTA in February 2012 was enjoyed by hundreds. In the 1990s, Paxton delved into recording children’s music, making him a musician to be appreciated by all ages. He’s also been long known for penning tunes chronicling events of the day, including wars, bailouts and the environment, among others.

Over the years, Paxton has accumulated numerous awards, most notably the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award during the 51st Annual Grammy Awards in 2009 (He has also been nominated for four additional Grammys for both his children’s music and folk albums). In 2002, Paxton was also honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for folk music from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), as well as a special lifetime tribute from the World Folk Music Association.

Don’t miss the opportunity to see Paxton perform while supporting a good cause. Tickets range from $35 to $45 dollars with a portion benefiting the Children’s Theatre of Annapolis that is tax-deductible.
