Anne Arundel Medical Center Opens Hackerman-Patz House

Temporary Exterior pic-Hackerman Patz HouseAnne Arundel Medical Center’s (AAMC) Hackerman-Patz House is now welcoming patients and their families with a home away from home to rest, relax and regain strength while staying close to the hospital.

The Hackerman-Patz House is made possible through a $2 million donation from Willard Hackerman, president and CEO of Whiting-Turner, and his wife, Lillian Patz Hackerman, of which the house is named. In addition to the generous donation from the Hackerman’s, AAMC’s Friends of Hackerman-Patz has raised $197,200 to help support the house.

“Offering families an affordable, convenient place to stay so they can focus on healing and supporting their loved ones is now a reality,” says Tori Bayless, CEO and president of Anne Arundel Medical Center. “Families are part of our care teams – this house brings them closer to us.  With this house on campus, we will be able to provide some normalcy and comfort for families.”

The Hackerman-Patz house will provide respite for families of the critically or terminally ill, or those visiting babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, cancer patients receiving multiple treatments, and families of patients requiring a lengthy recovery. Patients with early morning surgeries will also be able to stay overnight at the Hackerman-Patz House to avoid a pre-dawn commute to the hospital.

Located across from the hospital at 141 Jennifer Road in Annapolis, the 21,000 square-foot, two-story building has 20 guest rooms, each with a private bathroom. The facility is designed to meet the needs of patients and their families so they may stay close to the hospital.

“With this addition to our campus, we will be better poised to provide care beyond the walls of the hospital,” adds Bayless.

It is the fifth Hackerman-Patz House in Maryland.

Guest accommodations at the Hackerman-Patz House include:

  • 20 guest rooms equipped with a queen bed or two twin beds, mini refrigerator, telephone, cable television and DVD player
  • Wireless internet throughout the house
  • Handicap accessible room options
  • Playroom, multi-purpose media room, guest laundry
  • A great room, kitchen and terrace
