music-notes1The 333 Coffeehouse, Annapolis’ monthly listening space for folk and acoustic music, is pleased to present Mike Agranoff.

Mike Agranoff is an acclaimed folksinger, storyteller and multi-instrumentalist. A veteran performer, he plays superb fingerstyle guitar in idioms ranging from ancient harp tunes to Tin Pan Alley compositions. At home in both the contemporary and traditional camps of the folk world, he has absorbed material of all kinds and made it his own – his repertoire pushes the envelope of folk music, ranging as far afield as Bach on the concertina, recitations resembling the poems of Robert Service, and Joplin rags on the piano. He has an ear for the “best of the best” in contemporary folk songwriting, and it only enhances his original songs. He has a relentless sense of humor, which runs to hilarious song parodies and groan-inducing puns. But he can also express a full range of emotion, making an audience laugh, tear up, cheer, and think. In short, Mike Agranoff understands what’s special about folk music, and he knows how to share that understanding.

Not only a performer, Mike is involved in presenting folk music as well. He is one of the prime movers of The Folk Project, New Jersey’s oldest and strongest folk music organization. For over two decades he has been chairman of that organization’s Minstrel Coffeehouse, one of the longest-lived and most respected folk venues in the country.

Mike is based in New Jersey and tours the eastern US regularly and Britain occasionally. He has recorded four albums, the latest being Ain’t Never Been Plugged.

333 Coffeehouse is an acoustic concert series held the third Friday of the month at the Annapolis Friends Meeting House on DuBois Road in Annapolis. 333 is listener-centered, volunteer powered, non-profit, and smoke- and alcohol-free. It features traditional folk performers and songwriters. Inexpensive hot beverages, desserts and pizza are offered. With an intimate performance space and a modest admission price, 333 is a terrific entertainment value.

Admission: $10 (students, senior citizens and members $8).
