Tickets Still Available For MLK Breakfast

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Tickets are still available for the 32nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Breakfast on Monday, Jan. 21, at Anne Arundel Community College.

Doors open at 7:30 a.m. and the breakfast program begins at 8 a.m. in the David S. Jenkins Gymnasium on the Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway. Keynote speaker Pastor Jimmy Rollins, lead pastor of the i5 Church in Odenton, co-founded the i5 Elite track club that provides mentoring, accountability and tutoring to more than 150 young people a week as a way to help youth learn to use their gifts, talents and abilities to make a positive impact in today’s world.

The event honors six community members who best represent the spirit of the late Dr. King: Martin Grover, Dana Herbert, Leon Thomas, Ralph R. Thomas Sr., Jesse Eugene Young and the late Harrell S. Spruill. Winners of the Visionary Kids Contest designed to reconnect public school children with Dr. King’s life and achievements also will be recognized. Students from the county public schools’ visionary and performing arts magnet high school will present vocal and dramatic performances.

Tickets cost $35 each or $350 for a table for 10. Event proceeds will go to defray the cost of putting on the breakfast and providing the funds to honor the student Visionary Kids Contest winners. A canned food collection will take place at the breakfast sponsored by breakfast co-sponsor, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Lambda Delta Sigma Alumni Chapter. Everyone attending the breakfast is asked to bring a non-perishable item, preferably a canned good that will be collected and then given to the County Food Bank.
For tickets or information, contact Eugene Peterson at 301-538-0887, Dianne Williams at 410-222-5354 or Darlene Robinson at 410-481-1961.
