Homeless Woman Drowns In Rising Water

drowningOn January 31, 2013, at 1126 hours officers responded to the area of Laurel Fort Meade Rd. and Race Track Rd. Laurel, Md. 20724 for a drowning. A 911 call was received about a body floating in the water.

Fire department personnel were already on scene. The area is in a low lying wooded area and homeless people set up encampments for overnight stays.   The fire department water rescue team retrieved the deceased body of a female from the rising waters due to overnight heavy rains.   The victim has not been identified at this time but is described as an adult African American female and believed to be homeless.

A witness at the scene advised they told the female victim at approximately 0930 to 1000 hours this date to leave the area because it was unsafe due to rising waters.  The witness left the area at that time.   The female was discovered at the later time at approximately 1126 hours.   The investigation is still continuing in to the matter and identification of the victim.
