Attempted Abduction Report Unfounded

UpdateFrom the Anne Arundel County Police:

On January 30, 2013 at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers from the Southern District responded to a reported attempted abduction of an 11-year old female near Edgemont Street and Hillside Drive in Edgewater.

It was reported that two males in an older model station wagon attempted to grab the victim and force her into the vehicle. The victim was not hurt and was able to flee to report the incident. It was also reported that a small child was also seen inside the vehicle. Numerous patrol offices were placed in the area while detectives began their investigation.

After hearing of the accounts of the incident posted by citizens on various social media sites, a male walked into the Southern District and spoke to detectives. Detectives identified the vehicle and interviewed the two males from vehicle. They also found the small child passenger safe and unharmed.

In cases such as this, the safety of the victim and public is paramount and detectives wish to verify the facts as they were reported in an expeditious manner. In this case, the immediate reporting by the victim and coordinated police response brought this investigation to a quick close. The detectives determined that the suspects did not intend to commit abduction or assault the victim.

The public is strongly encouraged to report suspicious circumstances such as this so that they may be immediately investigated. In this case there should be no additional concern for trepidation.
