Annapolis Police Arrest Two In Yesterday’s Murder

Detectives from the Annapolis Police Department made two arrests in the January 23rd shooting death of 30 year old Howard Durley of Anne Arundel County. The suspects are currently being held at the Annapolis Police Department and will be transported to the court commissioner’s office this evening. The suspects have been identified as 19 year old William Chase of Capital Heights and 25 year old Charles Spriggs of Annapolis.

On January 23, 2013 at approximately 11:30 p.m. officers responded to the 1900 block of Copeland Street in reference to a reported shooting. The victim, Howard Durley, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Detectives located and interviewed several witnesses who provided information leading to the suspects.

The investigation has revealed that this was not a random act but apparently involves a relationship the victim had with a female.

“This was an unfortunate and senseless crime,” said Annapolis Police Chief Michael Pristoop.  “At the very least the community should understand that, although regrettable, this murder was not a random act but was targeted and purposeful. I am thankful for the thorough and quick work by our detectives and for the help provided by the State’s Attorney’s Office.”

Both suspects will be charged with Murder in the First Degree, First Degree Assault, various handgun charges, and other associated offenses.
