Leopold Misconduct Trial Continues . The misconduct trial of Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold continued Tuesday. Prosecutors said he misused his executive security detail to arrange sexual liaisons and to keep tabs on political enemies. Karla Hamner is not a witness in the trial against Leopold, but she sat directly behind him in court on Tuesday.
Convicted Felon Sought In Odenton Double Shooting . Anne Arundel County police are looking for a man wanted in connection with a double shooting at a bar in Odenton early Saturday morning. Police were called to the My Place Bar and Lounge in the 1600 block of Annapolis Road around 1:30 a.m. Saturday after getting reports of a shooting.
Phone Use While Driving May Become Primary Offense . There’s a new push in Annapolis to make using a cellphone while driving a primary traffic offense. That means police can pull motorists over if they see a phone in their hand behind the wheel. Under legislation introduced Tuesday violators are assessed a point against their license plus a $500 fine.
Poll: More Voters Oppose Death Penalty . One of the governor’s top priorities of the legislative session includes abolishing the state’s death penalty. The poll finds opposition to the death penalty in Maryland has grown 8 points over the past two years. Statewide, the poll finds 49 percent of voters favor the death penalty — 29 percent of which strongly favor it — and 44 percent oppose the death penalty — 31 percent of which strongly oppose it.
