out of businessA small Eastport consignment shop, The Backburner, is closing their shop at the end of the month and taking the business online.  In an email broadcast to clients yesterday morning, Dana Billings, the owner said

I have decided to change the way I do day to day operations. This will allow me to find unique kitchen items and keep prices reasonable. It will also allow me more time with my family, travel to find new items, and expand my customer base.

Starting January 26th, 2013 The Backburner will no longer operate a Brick and Mortar location. Day to day sales will be done via the website and Etsy shop.

The Backburner was one of the local businesses we featured late last year encouraging residents to support small, locally  owned businesses.

The loss of any street-front business is bad for our local economy in general. But, for local business owners, it is refreshing to hear that there is an alternative to simply closing the doors!
