Anne Arundel County Teachers Nationally Board-Certified. One of the top achievements in teaching is to become a nationally board-certified teacher; more than 200 educators have been added to the list in Maryland. In Anne Arundel County, 45 teachers earned that distinction — a district where the number of top educators has been on the rise.

Don Dwyer On DUI Charge: I’ve Sought Help. A Maryland state delegate who has admitted being under the influence of alcohol during a powerboat crash last summer said he’s sought treatment. Anne Arundel County Delegate Don Dwyer said in a statement on his Facebook page that he “turned to alcohol to cope” while facing personal and professional challenges.

Legislators Open Session With Hot Issues. Several hotly contested issues already await lawmakers as the General Assembly opens its 433rd session Wednesday. The agenda includes gun control measures and possibly a new revenue source for transportation, 11 News reporter David Collins said. The governor is still working on a legislative package that includes the gun control issue.

Baltimore Trade School Closes Abruptly. A trade school with branches in the Baltimore area shut down without notice, leaving students in the dark and wondering what will happen to their degree status and the tens of thousands of dollars they paid in tuition. The American Career Institute posted a letter on the front door of its south Baltimore location on Wednesday as students headed to class informing them that the private trade school had abruptly shut down “due to its recent and unanticipated inability to access additional credit from the school’s lenders.”
