Police: Mom Charged In Child’s Death. Baltimore City police on Wednesday said the mother of a 2-year-old boy who was killed has been charged. City police said the boy’s mother, identified as 32-year-old Nicole Fitzgerald, was also critically injured during the incident. Police said she was released from the hospital Tuesday night and was immediately taken into police custody.

Judge’s Ruling Leaves House Seat In Limbo. A Prince George’s County Circuit Court judge ruled against Tiffany Alston and Greg Hall in the status of a seat in the House of Delegates. Judge C. Philip Nichols Jr. ruled Wednesday evening in favor of the Prince George’s County Democratic Central Committee, Gov. Martin O’Malley and House Speaker Michael Busch, and against Alston and Hall.

FEMA Denys Hurricane Sandy Aid To Maryland’s Eastern Shore Communities. Maryland officials said they will appeal the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s decision to deny aid to hundreds of Eastern Shore residents affected by Superstorm Sandy. The agency announced that while it is providing financial aid to cover the damage done to public property destroyed in the storm, there was not enough significant damage in Worcester, Dorchester and Somerset counties to justify assistance to individual home and business owners.

Officer’s Gun Fires During Struggle At Hospital. A police officer’s gun fired during a struggle with a prisoner at the St. Joseph Medical Center emergency room in Towson. A struggle began when hospital staff found a needle hidden in the prisoner’s clothing shortly after 2:30 p.m., according to a statement from Baltimore County police.
