Anne Arundel Superintendent Submits $1B Budget. The Anne Arundel County schools superintendent has proposed a $1 billion budget, the largest in the system’s history. Kevin Maxwell proposed the 2014 budget on Wednesday. The County Council has final say on the budget. It is a 3 percent increase over fiscal year 2013.

Power Outage Confused For End Of World. Tens of thousands of electricity customers lost power in Anne Arundel County late Thursday night — but some thought it was the end the world. The outage occurred just before 9 p.m. Thursday in an area west of Annapolis. Anne Arundel County fire officials said the power outage extended from Crownsville to Annapolis.

Ravens Crush Giants, Win AFC North. On their fourth try, the Baltimore Ravens finally got the victory they needed to win the AFC North. Joe Flacco threw for 309 yards and two touchdowns, and the Ravens defeated the New York Giants 33-14 Sunday to capture their second straight division crown.

Police Shot, Kill, Man Armed With Knife. A Baltimore County police officer encountered a suspicious man armed with a knife and fatally shot him overnight. County police said the officer encountered the man shortly after 3:45 a.m. Sunday behind a Shell gas station on Edmondson Avenue near North Bend Road in the Woodlawn area
