Area School Officials Ensure Safety. Schools across the country, including those in and around Baltimore, are taking extra time to make sure everyone feels secure on school grounds after Friday’s incident at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut. Anne Arundel County Superintendent Kevin Maxwell, Board President Andrew Pruski and school leaders released a statement on the tragedy.

Anne Arundel County Police Investigate 3 RobberiesAnne Arundel County police are investigating three separate robberies that happened on Sunday. Officers were called to the 100 block of Ertter Drive in Laurel for the robbery at 8:54 p.m. Sunday. Officers learned it was an attempted armed robbery of three people: a 16-year-old male, a 17-year-old male and a 19-year-old male. Police said the three victims were standing in the hallway entrance of an apartment building when two robbers approached them and demanded they hand over their property.

21 Sent To Hospitals After Cambridge Fire. Fire and police officials in Dorchester County on the Eastern Shore are trying to figure out what caused a four-alarm blaze that sent 21 people to area hospitals late Sunday night. About 100 firefighters from 13 companies were called around 10:45 p.m. to the blaze at a building that contained a clothing store and some apartments in the 500 block of Race Street in Cambridge.

Bank Robbery Triggers School Lockdown. A Harford County high school had to be put on lockdown for a time Monday morning after police said a nearby bank was robbed and the culprit was on the loose. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office said a man robbed a Sovereign Bank branch around 11 a.m. in the 1800 block of Emmorton Road. Officials said the man, described as white and in his 40s, pulled out a gun and ordered an employee to give him money. He then ran behind the bank and may have gotten into a nearby car.
