Annapolis Chorale: A Celebration Of Christmas

One of Annapolis’ best-loved holiday traditions is the Annapolis Chorale’s annual Celebration of Christmas concerts.   The holidays wouldn’t be complete without the sound of “carols being sung by a choir,” in this case a really big choir.  The Chorale’s Celebration of Christmas concerts, led by Live Arts Maryland Music Director J. Ernest Green, are Thursday, December 6 (7:30 p.m.) and Friday, December 7 (8 p.m.) at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts.   “Everyone has a favorite holiday carol or song and we work hard to include as many as we can,” says Mr. Green.  With a mix of holiday music, sentiments and fun, the Chorale welcomes the season with the Annapolis Youth Chorus and special guests soprano Christina Lamberti and baritone Michael Ryan.  Providing glorious accompaniment to all the musical proceedings is the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra.

An accomplished opera singer at home and abroad, Ms. Lamberti’s singing has been called luscious, eloquent and powerful.   She was the soprano soloist with the Annapolis Chorale for last season’s performances of the Verdi Requiem.   She is a veteran opera performer, having sung such roles as Donna Elvira in “Don Giovanni” and Mimi in “La Boheme.”  One if this year’s concert highlights will be Ms. Lamberti’s performance of “O Holy Night.”  Mr. Ryan, who performed for presidents and world leaders for nearly 40 years as a member of The President’s Own Marine Band, will delight with “’Twas the Night Before Christmas,” among other selections.  Mr. Ryan appeared as Uncle Arvide in Live Arts Maryland’s September production of “Guys & Dolls.”  He is also the music director at St James Episcopal Church in Lothian.  The heart of Celebration of Christmas is the 170-member Annapolis Chorale, which will perform audience favorites including “White Christmas,” “Sleigh Ride” and “Sing We Now of Christmas,” just to name a few.  Everyone joins the choir with a special carol sing-along finale conducted by Mr. Green.

Tickets for Celebration of Christmas are $42/adults and $12/students (plus a $3 per-ticket service charge) and are on sale now at the Maryland Hall Box Office at 410-280-5640 or online at www.marylandhall.org. Discounted group rates are available.  For more information, visit www.liveartsmaryland.org.

Live Arts Maryland, J. Ernest Green, Music Director, is one of the region’s largest and most active non-profit arts organizations and is home to the Annapolis Chorale, the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra, the Annapolis Youth Chorus and the St. Anne’s Concert Series.  It offers music education programs for singers of all ages, including the MusicWorks school partnership, a scholarship program for high-school music students and workshops for adults.  The Annapolis Chorale is a resident company of Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts and is supported by the Maryland State Arts Council, the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County and the City of Annapolis.
