Bausum & Duckett Electric , a full-service residential, commercial and industrial electrical contractor serving the DelMarVa region, has been awarded the National Award of Excellence in Electrical Construction—Industrial Category–by the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) representing over 3,000 contractors throughout the United States. Bausum & Duckett Electric, located in Edgewater, Maryland and Delmar, Delaware, received the award at the 55 th Annual IEC National Convention and Electric Expo in Fort Worth, Texas.
The IEC National Award of Excellence in Electrical Construction is given each year to recognize remarkable electrical projects in the categories of Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Low Voltage/Limited Energy, and Efficient Energy/Green construction.
Bausum & Duckett Electric was recognized for its work on the Wallops Island Launch Pad 0A, a privately owned rocket launch pad, which will be utilized by Orbital Sciences Corporation’s ANTARES spacecraft to deliver cargo to the International Space Station. The project was highly complex and required coordination between different parties outside the construction scope of work such as NASA, Orbital Sciences Corporation, and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport.
Construction consisted of a rocket launch pad with an elevated entry ramp, bridge, deluge basin, explosive fuel systems tanks, process piping and skids, a water tank tower, 200 foot tall lightning masts, hydraulics with associated electrical controls, and support control systems bunkers. The electrical scope included underground conduit, encased duct banks with feeders for transformers to switchgears and switchgears to generator cables, a fire alarm system, weather-proof and explosion-proof receptacles, and power and control for equipment skids.
“We are honored to receive this important industry recognition from our peers,” said John Dorsey, Bausum & Duckett Senior Vice President.
“The Wallops Island Launch Pad was a challenging and complex project that required extraordinary innovation, coordination, and attention to detail and quality. I would like to congratulate Bausum & Duckett Electric for their successful work on the unique Wallops Island Launch Pad,” said Thayer Long, IEC National Executive Vice President/CEO. “This project’s size and intricacies allowed Bausum & Duckett to demonstrate their innovative craftsmanship while also showcasing the standard and quality of work performed by IEC contractors.”
