traffic-accident iconOn December 25, 2012 at approximately 22:00 hours, The Anne Arundel County Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash, involving a 1997 Acura 4-door that struck a parked rollback tow truck on Casaurina Way near the intersection of Spring Meadow Way in Odenton, Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

The front seat passenger of the Acura, a 7 year old male, sustained severe head trauma as a result of the crash.  He was transported to John Hopkins Children’s Center in critical condition.  The Traffic Safety Section was notified and responded to the crash to assume primary investigative responsibility.

The driver of the Acura, Lisa Marie Middledorf, was uninjured. Preliminary evidence indicates alcohol and driver fatigue to be contributing factors. She was transported to Western District Police Station for a mandatory breath test.

4 things jump out at me. #1 alcohol is a factor with a child in the car. Don’t drive. #2 fatigue? Don’t drive. #3 7 year olds do NOT belong in the front seat of ANY vehicle because air bags aren’t made for their size & lack of weight. #4 Parked rollback? I own a towing company, my rollback is 33′ long, pretty easy to see and avoid!

Praying for the child involved in this tragic accident. I hope he makes a full recovery.

  • A mom

    1. She, the boys mother, was released from the police station and no charges are being pursued as she was not under the influence of alcohol. I assume, like most parents of young children she had been up most of the night Christmas eve putting Santa toys together and was very tired.

    2. People get tired. It happens to the best of us. My husband who was a police cadet, a boyscout until he was 20 years old, and the kindest, most honest, and hard working family man I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing, rear ended a car as he was coming home from a double overnight work shift.

    3. The boy exceeds the 80lb weight limit that would require he ride in a booster seat. Mom was within the limits of the car seat safety law, hence being released free of any charges.

    4. It’s not hard to miss a tow truck if your eyes are closed.

Thinking of you and Landon during this difficult time for your family. My heart breaks for you! Those of us who know you, support you.

Driving while under the influence? Placing a seven year old in the front seat? Was the firewood that was in the backseat more important than the safety of the child? No excuse!
