Comcast Foundation Awards $6000 To Local Organizations

The Comcast Foundation has presented more than $6,000 in grants to two Anne Arundel County organizations as part of its Comcast Cares Day contributions.

The Anne Arundel County organizations receiving Comcast Cares Day grants include:

  • The Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County – $3,515
  • The Volunteer Center For Anne Arundel County – $2,831

Comcast partnered with the organizations for the company’s 11th annual Comcast Cares Day on Saturday, April 21, when more than 75,000 Comcast and NBCUniversal employees, friends and family members joined together across the country to participate in one of the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer efforts. The grants are presented in recognition of Comcast’s commitment to the communities where its customers live and work, on behalf of each Comcast employee and family member who volunteered on Comcast Cares Day.

“Comcast Cares Day is part of a year-round commitment to our local communities,” said Donna Rattley Washington, regional vice president of government and community affairs for Comcast.  “Through this support from the Comcast Foundation, we are pleased to help our local partners as they continue to make such a profound impact on the lives of so many.”

As part of Comcast Cares Day at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County, volunteers spent the day mentoring and participating in a scavenger hunt with young Club members. Comcast also partnered with the Volunteer Center for Anne Arundel County on Comcast Cares Day to participate in “Save the Bay Day” at Lake Waterford Park in Pasadena.

“We are grateful to Comcast and its employees for taking the time to work with and provide mentorship to our club members on Comcast Cares Day,” said Chief Professional Officer, Reginald Broddie for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County.  “The grant from the Comcast Foundation will support us in our efforts to create positive experiences to help transform the lives of young people in our community.”

“Comcast Cares Day volunteers made a lasting and positive impact on the environment and our local community through their contributions on Save the Bay Day,” said Fay Mauro, executive director for the Volunteer Center For Anne Arundel County. “We are pleased to accept this generous grant from the Comcast Foundation that will help us  connect even more Anne Arundel County residents with opportunities to pitch in and strengthen their  local communities.”

In 2012, volunteers contributed to more than a dozen projects across Maryland on Comcast Cares Day. Nationwide, Comcast Cares Day volunteers have donated more than 2.5 million hours of service since the initiative first began in 2001. In addition, Comcast has contributed more than $11 million in Comcast Cares Day grants to partner organizations to help them continue in their missions to serve their local communities.

Since 1999, the Comcast Foundation has had a positive impact on lives in nearly 2,000 communities through approximately 3,000 organizations.  For more information on Comcast’s volunteer and community investment initiatives, visit www.comcast.com/community.
