Question 6 Gay Marriage Measure Approved.  After years of debate and failed legislation, Marylanders passed the same-sex marriage referendum on Election Day Tuesday. Question 6 asked voters to decide whether to approve or reject the Civil Marriage Protection Act. The referendum, which was passed by the General Assembly in 2012, would allow same-sex couples to obtain a civil marriage license.

Question 7 Gaming Expansion Passes.  Maryland politicians threw the dice, and voters passed the Gaming Expansion referendum on Election Day. According to the Maryland State Board of Elections, the Question 7 referendum asks voters if they favor the expansion of commercial gaming in the State of Maryland for the primary purpose of raising revenue for education to authorize video lottery operation licensees to operate “table games” as defined by law; to increase from 15,000 to 16,500 the maximum number of video lottery terminals that may be operated in the state; and to increase from five to six the maximum number of video lottery operation licenses that may be awarded in the state and allow a video lottery facility to operate in Prince George’s County.

The DREAM Act Passes In Maryland.  Voters likened Maryland referendum Question 4 to a dream come true for children of illegal immigrants as the measure passed on Election Day Tuesday. Question 4 asked voters to decide whether to approve or reject the law that would allow undocumented individuals to pay in-state tuition rates at public institutions of higher education.

Former Baltimore Mayor Faces New Legal Trouble. Former Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon faces new legal trouble. According to electronic court records, violation of probation charges have been filed against her. The I-Team has learned that, according to a source familiar with the case, the allegation concerns the requirement that Dixon pay restitution. Reached by phone, Dixon told I-Team Lead Investigative Reporter Jayne Miller she fell behind on payments she’s required to make as part of her probation. Her plea agreement requires her to make restitution to a charity in the amount of $45,000.
