According to our media partner, WBAL-TV, the four occupants of the two vehicles have been identified as Brittany Marie Ziegler, 21, of Pasadena and Lilly Renee Gross, 3, of Glen Burnie in one vehicle. Joseph Allen Oliver Jr, 30, of Glen Burnie, and Crystal Jean Benton, 18, of Laurel in the second.

On November 18, 2012, at 1:36 p.m., officers from the Northern District responded to Marley Neck Boulevard near Freeman Shores Road in Glen Burnie for a reported accident involving two vehicles.

Preliminary investigation suggests that a vehicle (Oliver’s) traveling northbound on Marley Neck Boulevard attempted to pass traffic across a double yellow line (no passing zone).  While driving northbound in the southbound lane the vehicle  struck a second vehicle carrying Ziegler and Gross, which was southbound in its correct lane resulting in a head-on collision.

The second vehicle was overturned and travelled backwards approximately 75 feet before coming to rest on the east side of the roadway.  The first vehicle continued northbound after the collision for another 100 feet, broke apart and came to rest in the southbound lane.  Its engine came to rest in a wooded area approximately 60 feet west of the roadway and the passenger was ejected after the car broke apart.

All four victims sustained incapacitating injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Excessive speed by the Oliver is considered a major contributing factor, but at this time no determination has been made whether drugs or alcohol played a factor.  The collision is being handled by the Traffic Safety Section and remains under investigation.
