TCS Half Marathon To Be Run On Saturday

The 2nd Annual TCS Annapolis Half Marathon will take place Saturday, December 1.  The race will close streets and traffic delays are expected.

This is a run event that will begin and end at the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium. Organizers anticipate approximately 3,000 registered runners at this time.

Parking and Traffic Impacts

All route and street closures within the City of Annapolis have been worked out with, and agreed to by, the Annapolis Police Department, USNA and MD Department of Transportation. Extensive consideration has been given by the APD to minimizing the inconvenience to residents and businesses. There will be no loss of parking along the route.

Setup begins at 3:00 a.m. Saturday, December 1 and will not close roads. No impact on residents is expected.

Parking along Main St. and King George St. will not be impacted.

Sidewalks will be used by spectators along the run and bike routes, but sidewalk closures are not planned or requested. APD police, traffic professionals, EMTs, and event volunteers will be along the run route for crowd control, traffic control, and emergency assistance.

Road closures will be a “rolling open, rolling close.”

Street Closures

Suggested street and intersection closures by location and approximate time based on anticipated presence of the runners are below. This will be a rolling open/close and the times that the police actually open or close roads and intersections may vary.

Traffic will be able to travel in and out of Rowe Boulevard by way of a detour around the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Police will be stationed at the Rowe intersections (Farragut Road/Rowe Boulevard and Herbert Sachs/Rowe Boulevard) to direct people.

Stadium Area / Rowe Blvd (7:00 – 10:00 a.m.)

  • Taylor Ave. between Cedar Park Rd. & Herbert Sachs Blvd – Open to traffic by way of detour
  • Taylor Ave. between Herbert Sachs Blvd & B&A Blvd – Closed to traffic at race start 7:00 – 7:30 a.m., closed with detour in place 7:30 – 10:00 a.m.
  • Cedar Park Rd. between Taylor Ave. & Farragut Rd. – 7:00 – 7:30 p.m.
  • Farragut Rd. – Closed to traffic at race start 7:00 – 7:30 a.m.
  • Rowe Blvd. – Southbound lane from Farragut to Taylor – Closed to traffic

West Annapolis/Taylor Ave. Area (7:05 – 7:40 a.m.)

  • Taylor Ave from Rowe Blvd to Baltimore Blvd – inbound traffic only from 7:05-7:40 a.m.
  • Intersection of Rowe Blvd. at Taylor Ave. – Closed to traffic
  • Taylor Ave. south of Rowe Blvd. – Detour around the Stadium using Farragut Rd. and Cedar Park to go toward West St. or re-enter Rowe Blvd.

 Historic Area (7:05 – 8:40 a.m.)

  • Rowe Blvd. between Taylor Ave. & Northwest St. – Inbound (SE bound) lanes closed to traffic between 7:00 and 8:25 a.m.
  • Northwest St. – Closed to incoming traffic, exiting traffic onto Church Cr unimpeded
  • Church Circle – North portion of Circle between Northwest St. & Main St.; open to traffic Northwest to Main St.
  • Church Circle at College Ave. – Closed to traffic when runners are passing
  • Main St. – Closed to traffic between 7:05-8:30 a.m.
  • Main St. & Randall St. – Closed to traffic between 7:05-8:25 a.m.
  • Randall St. & King George St. – Closed to traffic between 7:10-8:30 a.m.
  • King George St. between Randall St. & Baltimore Blvd. – Closed to traffic between 7:10-8:40 a.m.
  • College Ave. at King George St. – Closed to traffic entering King George St between 7:10-8:40 a.m.

Naval Academy Bridge Area (7:25 – 9:40 a.m.)

  • Route 450 from King George St. to USNA Gate 8 – Closed to traffic
  • Naval Academy Bridge (Route 450 from King George St. to B&A Blvd) – Closed to traffic except those going to the USNA itself
  • Route 450 from USNA Gate 8 to B&A Blvd – Open to traffic going to USNA ONLY, flagged one-lane traffic

Ritchie Highway (7:00—9:40 a.m.)

  • Ritchie Highway – Open, with modifications
