Arnold Volunteer Fire Department

The Arnold Volunteer Fire Department is always recruiting volunteer members, age 16 and up, to serve both as firefighters and to assist with administrative tasks. Current needs include firefighter/EMT, building maintenance, public outreach and fire safety education, fundraising, event planning, and administrative assistance. All firefighting training and equipment is provided free of charge. Arundel House of Hope

Arundel House of Hope’s programs encompass a variety of services for individuals experiencing homelessness in Anne Arundel County. These include transitional housing through the Fouse Center, Permanent and Community Housing, Supportive Housing through the Safe Haven Program, the Resource and Day Center, and the Winter Relief rotating shelter program. General volunteer needs include administrative support, transportation to and from appointments, job counseling and life skills coaches, computer maintenance help, and persons to serve on the board of directors. Additional volunteer opportunities vary by location but include facilities maintenance and repair and grounds maintenance. Donations of food and clothing items, cleaning, office and kitchen supplies, paper products, toiletry items, landscaping tools, and more are also needed. Civil Air Patrol (Annapolis)

The Annapolis Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol offers challenging opportunities for youths 12-18 years old, aerospace education enthusiasts and adults with an interest in search and rescue, homeland security, disaster relief and humanitarian missions. Leadership training, technical education and an opportunity to participate in aviation-related activities are just a few of the exciting benefits of CAP membership. Also, during weekends in the summer our squadron flies over the Chesapeake Bay looking for boats in distress and provides eyes in the skies for the Natural Resources Police and the Coast Guard. CAP Annapolis needs youth and adult volunteers to help us perform our air and ground missions. Maryland Emergency Medical Services Inc (MDEEMSP)

MDEMSP, Inc. provides EMS workers for Special events and volunteers for staff support for other non-profits within Maryland. Volunteers are needed for administrative tasks, and Emergency Services Workers are needed to attend special events. Maryland Federation of Art

Through exhibitions and organizational activities, the Maryland Federation of Art provides opportunities to encourage and support artists in their work and to promote awareness of the visual arts in the community at large. Volunteering at the MFA is a great way to network with peers and creative types, learn new skills and use old ones, and meet new friends. Maryland Public Television (MPT – Throughout Central Maryland)

We ask for 15-20 volunteers to take calls during a pledge program which is “live” and takes place in our studio located at 11767 Owings Mills Blvd., Owings Mills, Maryland, 21117.  We provide dinner and training for all volunteers.  While organizations and groups of volunteers work well for the pledge programs, we will also accept individual volunteers.  Any organization that provides 15 or more volunteers is entitled to an on-air interview on television to promote the organization.  The dates and times of the remaining opportunities are listed below.  The start time of the shift is the time they would need to arrive.Sunday, December 9th, 6-10:30pm, “Alfie Boe:  Live from Royal Albert Hall, London”, “Masterpiece Theater:  Downton Abbey, Season 2.” Contact Kristin Cook, Volunteer Coordinator, Maryland Public Television at 410-581-4035 or [email protected].

 

Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland

Individuals and groups can assist the homebound. Volunteer as little as an hour a month to make a world of difference. Drivers needed to deliver meals Monday through Friday (holidays included) between 10:30 am and 1:30 pm. Volunteers also needed to accompany drivers, pack meals, or make birthday or other greeting cards to be delivered with the meals. Many opportunities are flexible, and training is provided. Locations are in Glen Burnie (Pascal Senior Center), Annapolis (St. Martin’s Lutheran on Forest Dr.), and Severna Park (Woods Church). Routes in Cape St. Claire/St. Margaret, Crofton, Glen Burnie, Annapolis, Odenton and Old Mill communities are in urgent need. STARS – Speakers, Tutors, Achievement, Retention, Success

STARS is an initiative located at the Woodland Job Corps Center in Laurel, Maryland.  STARS works with students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to help with achieving academic goals and the necessary life skills to be a success.  Adult male and female volunteers are needed as mentors and/or tutors to work students between the ages of 16 and 24.  Tutors are needed in math and reading to help them prepare for GED and college entrance tests.  Tutoring is offered on Monday and Thursday afternoons from 3:45 to 5:15.  Tutors may work one or both days each week.
