UPDATE 6:46pm November 24, 2012. From Annapolis Battalion Chief John Menassa, the ambulance from the Forest Drive station was responding to a non-emergency call (no lights or sirens) when they were struck by a vehicle on the right front bumper. There was minimal damage to the ambulance and it was not taken out of service. There were no injuries to the two medics on board. The driver of the car was arrested by Annapolis Police and charged with driving under the influence.
We have a call into the police department to find out the name of the driver as well as the exact location of the accident.
Two people are in area hospitals after the car they were driving sideswiped an Annapolis City ambulance, lost control and rolled over several times.
The ambulance and car were both traveling outbound on Route 665 about 4:30am this morning when the car failed to merge into the right lane (this is where 665 narrows from 3 lanes to 2 just past Chinquapin Round Road), striking the ambulance.
There was minor damage to the ambulance. One patient was transported to shock-trauma via ground and the other was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center.
There is no update on the condition of the victims or on the cause of the accident.
