Shop With A Cop

On December 1, 2012, The Annapolis Optimists will again be holding its annual “Shop With A Cop” program.

Each year they unite 20 Annapolis and Anne Arundel County police officers,  with 20 deserving children, for a joint shopping experience between the officers and the children. The officers take the children to the local Walmart, in their police cars. Each child is presented with a $100 gift card.

The officers assist each child in selecting gifts. The officer and child then wrap their presents at the Annapolis Outback, where they have a special lunch.

All of this is sponsored by the Annapolis Optimists Club, who arranges for the officers to be paired with local children.

Although you might expect the children to be the most excited about this event, the officers are often the most surprised at how the children do not buy gifts for themselves, but for their family members. The spirit of the holidays is most evident.
