Grab your jogging shoes and get ready to run for a free turkey, pie or other prizes at the 24th annual 5K Turkey Trot, One-Mile Jaunt and Food Drive at noon Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Siegert Field on the Arnold campus of Anne Arundel Community College.

The Turkey Trot began as a fun way for families or close friends home for the holidays to exercise together. Prizes include turkeys, pies, gift cards and more and are awarded to first- and second-place winners in all categories. Participants can try to be the fastest runners or can win by predicting closest to their exact finishing time.

Register before Nov. 9 at $15 per individual for the 5K and $10 for the one-mile jaunt. The price goes up by $5 in each category after Nov. 9. Packets may be picked up from the registration table at Siegert Field beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Participants are asked to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the AACC Food Pantry, which can be dropped off at the registration table. The pantry, which relies completely on donations, serves students who arrive for classes hungry and cannot afford to buy food. Since opening in March 2010, the pantry has had more than 500 visits. The most popular items are microwavable dinners and snacks, cups of fruit, breakfast or granola bars, small juice bottles, cheese and crackers, peanut butter and jelly, cereal and soups.

Go to www.aacc.edu/healthfitness/turkeytrot.cfm for registration forms and a course map. Download a registration form, make checks payable to the AACC Fitness Center and mail or drop them off at Anne Arundel Community College, 101 College Parkway, GYM 208, Arnold, MD 21012-1895. After the race, go to that same link to see photos and results. Proceeds go to the AACC Fitness Center and the AACC Food Pantry.
