Kenny Loggins And the Blue Sky Riders Coming To Rams Head

The club of musical artists who have played for nearly fifty years is a small one. The ones that remain relevant is even smaller.  This week, Rams Head On Stage will play host to one of them.  Kenny Loggins and the Blue Sky Riders will bring their show to the West Street venue on Tuesday, September 18th for a single nearly sold-out show.

Kenny Loggins’ sound is timeless as is evidenced by the staying power of this artist. Your Mama Don’t Dance was a chart topper in the early 70s with his partner Jim Messina. Another huge hit for Loggins & Messina was My Music which had everyone in the 70s tapping their toes.

In the 80s, Loggins was concentrating on his solo work and brought some of our favorite movies to life–I’m Alright from Caddyshack, Footloose from Footloose, and Danger Zone from the blockbuster hit-Top Gun.

The 90s brought my personal favorite, Return To Pooh Corner. We saw the start of the new millennium with I Miss Us.

But now Loggins brings the Blue Sky Riders to Annapolis. Kenny Loggins likes to joke that he is the “only performer he knows that started in a band… toured as a soloist and went back to a band”…well, kind of. He is still touring the country and performing all of his many hits, but has added a new chapter in his life with two of Nashville’s premier songwriters, Gary Burr and Georgia Middleman–together they are Blue Sky Riders.  I could go on about their sound but sometimes it is better to give it a listen!

And the enthusiasm does not end with their audiences. Check out the post from their tour blog after the first night a few days ago:

What we HAD for our first show was an almost full Kent Theater with a crowd that stood and cheered and rushed the front to dance and sing along to songs they had never heard before from a band they didn’t know. They sat in full attention for the ballads, clapped along with the rockers and made our first show amazing. When it was over, Kenny, Georgia and I hugged each other in the dressing room, close to tears (also close to the ladies toilet), overcome with the emotions that came from having our show wildly surpass what we hoped and dreamed for the last two years. Almost the entire audience then stood in the lobby for over an hour to buy our merch and tell us how much they love the music and the band. What a night!

There are very limited seats available and may be sold out by the time this publishes, but you can try!  But if you can, get some tickets and check back here for some photos and a recap of what looks to be one of the best shows to come to town in a long, long time!
