Ballet Theatre Of Maryland Brings Aladdin To Bowie

Ballet Theatre of Maryland (BTM), the state’s premier professional ballet company, will be bringing its acclaimed original work, Aladdin, to Bowie Center for the Performing Arts for a one-night only engagement on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 7:00pm.

Choreographed by BTM Artistic Director Dianna Cuatto to the music of Rimsky-Korsakov and Borodin and premiered in 2011, BTM’s Aladdin draws inspiration from the traditional story, A Thousand and One Nights, as well as popular movies – Prince of Persia and Disney’s Aladdin. Selecting components from each, Cuatto has constructed a new hybrid of the story which casts Aladdin as a pure-hearted street urchin in love with the beautiful Princess Samira, who finds himself caught in a supernatural battle between Jamal, a power-hungry wizard, and Morgianna, a sorceress who has fallen in love with the genie of the lamp, Mordecai.

Younger patrons will enjoy the Arabian Nights party, which will begin at 6:00pm and is free with a performance ticket. Kids are encouraged to dress as their favorite hero or villain and meet the dancers while enjoying tasty treats.

Tickets are $25 for adults with discounts available for seniors, students and children. City of Bowie residents enjoy an additional $5 off of all tickets with a valid ID (to redeem the discount online, enter BOWIE5 at checkout). To purchase tickets in advance, go online to www.balletmaryland.org or call BTM at 410.224.5644. Tickets are also available at the door.
