MainStreets Partners with Heavy Seas for “Pyrate Invasion”

Aaargh! MainStreets Annapolis Partnership (MAP) is calling all the good citizenry of Annapolis to its defense as the first ever “Pyrate Invasion” lands at the MAP Pocket Park on September 29.

Sponsored by MAP and Heavy Seas, this invasion brings on board 10 local restaurants for a day filled with treasure hunting, good eats and drinks for privateers of all ages. Families are invited to the MAP Pocket Park at 122 Main Street beginning at noon on Saturday, September 29, to pick up a treasure map (for a $5.00 donation) that will lead them on an adventure through the city.

After answering several questions, kids and adults can return their maps and receive prizes. In addition, all participants are encouraged to upload pictures of your group in pirate attire on the “Pyrate Invasion” Facebook site for a chance to win free tickets to the Heavy Seas Fiery Foods & Firkins Festival on November 10.

Greg Nivens, President with the Trigger Agency is partnering with MAP on this event, having had great success with a similar program in the Fells Point Historic District in Baltimore. “We started a similar program about 8 years ago which has turned into the Fells Point Privateer Day. It’s now a family festival with pirate themed booths and activities during the day and then a pirate themed pub crawl event in the evening. It now hosts approximately 5,000 people, but it started out this same way, as a ‘pyrate invasion’ involving several local restaurants.”

MAP is partnering on this event to promote visitation to the downtown area during the early autumn season. Connie Del Signore, CEO and President of the Conference and Visitor’s Bureau support activities like this that enhance the visitor experience. “Many of our visitors to Annapolis are repeat visitors. Anything we do to make their trip a little more fun, a bit more entertaining, is another way to maintain their loyalty.”

Participating MAP partners for this event include: Mangia Italian Grill & Sports, Armadillo’s Bar & Grill, Dock Street Bar & Grill, Middleton Tavern, Federal House Bar & Grill, OBriens Oyster Bar & Restaurant, Castlebay Irish Pub, The Sly Fox Pub, Stan and Joe’s Saloon and Pussers Caribbean Grill Restaurant.
