Crash In Deale Kills 2, Sends 1 To Shock Trauma

UPDATE 5:49pm 9/8/2012:  From the Anne Arundel County Police Department:

On September 8, 2012 at approximately 0804 hours, officers from the Southern District responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision at Bay Front Road East near Rockhold Creek Road in Deale, Maryland 20751. Officers arrived on scene and located two vehicles near the north side of the roadway with heavy front end damage. The driver of Vehicle #1 (Sara Cassidy) was trapped in the vehicle and pronounced dead upon the arrival Anne Arundel County Fire Department Paramedics. The front seat passenger of Vehicle #2 (Frances Shryock-Hesson) was ejected from the vehicle during the collision and was also pronounced dead upon the arrival Anne Arundel County Fire Department Paramedics. The driver of Vehicle #2 (Janice Hollabaugh) was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by fire department personnel. She was treated at the scene by paramedics and flown by Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 6 to the Prince Georges Hospital Center where she is stable in the Intensive Care Unit.

Crash Investigators from the Traffic Safety Section were dispatched to the crash scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation.

The initial investigation revealed that Vehicle #1 was traveling east on Bay Front Road East when for an unknown reason drove partially off the right side of the road into the grass. The driver overcorrected and drove into the westbound lane striking Vehicle #2 head-on.

The investigation is on going at this time and it is unknown if excessive speed and or alcohol were factors in this crash.

UPDATE 11:25 am: Our media partner WBAL-TV is reporting that the surviving victim of the head-on crash was a 20-year old female. 

A severe crash at Route 258 and Rockhold Creek Road in Deale this morning around 8am has left two people dead and sent one to shock-trauma in Baltimore by Maryland State Police helicopter.

Currently ‎258 is closed from Nutwell Sudley to Rockhold Creek Road while police investigate. Initial estimates indicate the road will be closed most of the morning.

Details of the crash are not yet available. We will update this story as we learn more.
