Take A Trip To Italy Through AACC’s Travel-Study Course

Siena 2007

Discover the attractions of the Italian Renaissance firsthand in Florence, Siena, Rome and the Vatican while learning history and gaining three college history credits in a week.

“Italian Renaissance” (HIS 281) is led and taught by Frank W. Alduino, Ph.D., professor of history at Anne Arundel Community College since 1989 and George Bocchieri, a retired art teacher. The trip dates are Jan. 2-9, 2013, with mandatory class meetings prior to the trip on the Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway

The tour features English-speaking guides on a walking tour of Florence, the walled city of Siena and a full-day tour of Rome, including Vatican museums, the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Colosseum. The package includes breakfast daily and three dinners. The approximate $3,000 cost of the trip includes round-trip transatlantic flights, airport transfers and double-occupancy accommodations in three-star hotels, ground transportation, admission fees and all VAT and hotel taxes.

Additional highlights of the tour include the Arch of Constantine, Roman Forum and the Pantheon in Rome; the Duomo and Baptistery in Siena; and the church of Santa Croce, where Michelangelo, Machiavelli and Galileo are buried and the Academia with its statue of Michelangelo’s David in Florence. Participants also will have time to do sightseeing on their own.

The trip is co-sponsored by the AACC history department and the Office of Travel Study and Global Engagement, part of the Sarbanes Center for Public and Community Service.
