The Homestead Gardens Tomato Fest Is Coming

The perennially popular tomato, a favorite of backyard gardeners everywhere, is being celebrated at the Fourth Annual Tomato Festival and Chesapeake Chili Cook-off at Homestead Gardens in Davidonsville, Md., on Saturday, August 25, from 12pm to 6pm.

The family-friendly event celebrates ‘all things tomato,’ with many activities throughout the day, including a salsa competition and a fastest pizza eating contest, sponsored by Ledo Pizza in Edgewater, Md. Attendees can sample fresh tomatoes, enjoy live musical entertainment, and purchase additional food and beverages such as pizza and barbeque.

Individual tickets cost $10, and family tickets for up to four people cost $25, with children under 10 admitted free of charge. The Tomato Festival will be held on Saturday, September 1 in the event of rain. Ticket purchases are all-inclusive, to cover admittance to all areas of the Tomato Festival, including the three competitions, entertainment, and food sampling. Tickets can be purchased at both Homestead Gardens locations in Davidsonville and Severna Park through August 25.

The Chesapeake Chili Cook-off entry fee costs $25, and is open to individuals, restaurants, and organizations to compete for the top prize of $1,000, as well as more than $250 in gift cards to local businesses, and the coveted People’s Choice Chili Trophy. The $10 fee for entering the Salsa Competition applies to both individuals and restaurants/caterers, which will each be judged in separate categories. The Ledo Fastest Pizza Eating Contest is free to all participants. August 20 is the registration deadline for each contest.

Profits from the Tomato Festival and Chili Cook-off will benefit Wellness House of Annapolis, a nonprofit organization offering services and programs to assist those living with cancer and their loved ones, including children.

More information, including contest entry forms, is available online at homesteadgardens.com/events.
