Mother Abandons 2-Month Old Infant, Flees To Virginia With Daughters

On August 6, 2012, at approximately 12:15 p.m., officers from the Northern District responded to an address in the 700 block of Marley Avenue in Glen Burnie for a report of a missing infant about the same time that Western District officers were responding to a report of an infant recovered outside of the Grace Point Presbyterian Church in the 600 block of Donald Avenue in Severn.

The investigation revealed that the mother of the two-month old male infant was last observed with the child around 8:00 a.m. on August 6, 2012. The mother apparently abandoned the child in his car seat under a porch on a side entrance to the church. The mother then responded to an address in the Severn area, where she picked up her 10-year-old and 13-year-old daughters and left the area in a Chevrolet Venture. The male infant was discovered by a citizen, who immediately called police. The child was subsequently transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center by ambulance with minor injuries sustained from exposure to the elements.

An extensive search for the mother and her two daughters was conducted by numerous officers, a K-9 unit and the Aviation unit in order to take custody of the mother and check on the well-being of her daughters. Furthermore, alerts were put out though other agencies statewide and to other states. After working closely with family members, officers soon learned the whereabouts of the mother and her two children. Deputies from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Comfort Inn located in the 5400 block of Jefferson Davis Highway in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where contact was made with the mother and her two children were determined to be in good condition. Charges were later applied for and a criminal summons has been issued for the suspect, who is being charged with Neglect of a Minor and Desertion of a Minor.

Suspect: Pettricia Finch-Miller, 32, of 613 Apt. 14 Water Wheel Court, Millersville, Md
