Man Arrested In North Carolina Suspected Of Killing His Father In Pasadena

On August 12, 2012, at approximately 9:30 a.m., members of the Anne Arundel County Police Department were dispatched to the 400 block of Harlem Avenue in Pasadena, Maryland, for a report of a deceased male.

Upon arrival, a family member reported finding the adult male victim deceased inside of the residence. The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Homicide Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigative responsibility. The victim has since been identified as Darius Keenan, 50 of the same address as the incident.

The body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore to determine the final cause and manner of death. Through the preliminary investigation, Detectives have a family member of the victim, who is a person of interest, in custody at this time on an unrelated matter. The incident does not appear to be a random act of violence and the investigation is ongoing.

On August 12, 2012, Homicide detectives determined that Darius Keenan Sr.’s vehicle was missing from his residence. A nationwide lookout was broadcasted. Later that same day, members of the North Carolina Highway Patrol located the vehicle in Charlotte, North Carolina. The vehicle was stopped and the operator was identified as 26-year-old Darius Keenan Jr. Mr. Keenan Jr. was arrested and charged with numerous traffic violations in North Carolina.

Members of the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Homicide Unit traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina, to continue the investigation. Several search and seizure warrants were executed and detectives recovered evidence linking Keenan Jr. to his father’s death.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore has since determined that Mr. Keenan Sr.’s death is a homicide. Mr. Keenan Sr. died as a result of a gunshot wound to the upper torso. The Anne Arundel County Police Department is working closely with the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office, the North Carolina Highway Patrol and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department has charged Darius Keenan Jr. with one count of theft of auto on an arrest warrant. Darius Keenan Jr. is currently being held in Charlotte, North Carolina, for traffic charges and a detainer on the auto theft charge. The Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office is seeking extradition. The homicide investigation of Darius Keenan Sr. is active and considered ongoing.
