Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival Raises $30K For Local Charities

Due to higher than anticipated expenses, the 2012 Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival raised approximately $30,000 for several local charities.  “Although the income was somewhat disappointing, we are still pleased that we were able to make contributions to these worthwhile causes” stated Don Hooker, Festival Promoter.

He went on to say that next year the festival will be looking for ways to better control expenses including looking for a different venue.  “While we are still trying to work with DNR officials to stay at the beautiful Sandy Point State Park location, we are exploring other options both inside and outside of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County that would be more cost effective.” says Hooker.

The primary mission of the festival is to raise money for local charities while providing a world class music event to the region.  The festival has raised close to One Million dollars since its inception in 1998. In addition, it has brought many music legends to the Annapolis area including: Aretha Franklin, James Brown, John Lee Hooker, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Guy, Chuck Berry, Koko Taylor, Wilson Pickett and many more.  It has gained recognition as one of the premier festivals in the country, drawing thousands to the area from all over the world.

The Chesapeake Bay Events (CBE) held its first festival in 1998.  It has quickly gained national notoriety as one of the premier Blues Festivals in the world.  Outside of providing top caliber entertainment, the festival gives ALL net proceeds to charity.

This year the recipient charities were: End Hunger Calvert, John Hopkins Cleft and Cranial Facial Children’s CAMP FACE, We Care and Friends, which is an organization providing a wide variety of services to the needy of Annapolis, and Camp Fantastic, a camp for children with cancer which is operated by Special Love Inc.
