NOTE: Please see updates to last paragraph. Changes are displayed.

The City of Annapolis and the management team for Park Annapolis have been busy making upgrades and parking enhancements at all of the City’s parking facilities.

New parking control equipment has been implemented and will expedite access for both transient and monthly parking customers.  Also, public restrooms have been installed at Hillman and online payments are now being accepted for all City garages.

These enhancements are necessary to meet the increasing demand for parking throughout the City.   As a result, the rate for both monthly and transient parking at the garages will increase.

“The Department of Transportation is increasing rates after consultation with Park Annapolis, in line with the recommendation of the adopted FY 13 budget,” City Manager Michael Mallinoff said. “The City Council approved the transportation budget to ensure that all operating costs would come from its budget and would not depend on any further general fund subsidies.”

These rate changes (click to see new rates) will take place on Monday, August 20, for daily parking and on Saturday, September 1, for monthly parking.

“While the proposed rates reflect the increasing demand for parking we have in the City, the increase also reflects the City’s policy of market pricing, which promotes lower parking rates for individuals who park further away from the downtown area,” said Transportation Director Richard Newell.

While the increases do not seem to be much on the surface, the City has also eliminated the flat rate parking  eliminated the flat rate parking at the Hillman garage in the evenings as well as the Sunday morning free parking. which was offered to those attending religious services. The City has worked with local Churches to maintain the free parking for churchgoers!
