The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities
The Department is looking for volunteers who want to teach Stanford University’s Living Well workshop series.
Leaders will co-facilitate a once-a-week workshop for six weeks for participants who suffer from chronic conditions. The volunteers do not have to be health care professionals, but should have a willingness to assist others to manage their chronic conditions. Leaders will become facilitators who can help participants develop self-management skills to improve their daily lives. Training will be from 9:30 a.m. –3 p.m. Sept. 13, 14, 27 and 28, 2012 at the Department of Aging and Disabilities, 2666 Riva Road, in Annapolis. Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. This nonprofit’s mission is to conserve the landscapes and special places that sustain the Chesapeake Bay’s unique natural and cultural resources, strengthen the connection between people and the watershed, and encourage the exploration and celebration of the Chesapeake as a national treasure. Volunteers are needed to help with fundraising, including stuffing envelopes for solicitations, donor acknowledgements, and doing online research for potential funders. In addition, administrative support is needed for the Executive Director including help with scheduling meetings, answering telephones, help with emails, and more. Friends of Kinder Farm Park, Fall Harvest Festival, Sat., Oct. 13, 2012
Kinder Farm is seeking a large number of volunteers to help with the annual Fall Harvest Festival from 9:00 am–5:00pm, Sat., Oct. 13, 2012. Adults and students are needed to help in 4-hour shifts. Students, middle school age and older, are needed to run children’s activities with adult supervisors. Adults are needed to help with preparation, set-up, hayrides, concession sales, Bingo/auction and assisting youth volunteers. Maryland Seafood Festival, Sat.-Sun., Sept. 8-9, 2012
The Maryland Seafood Festival is seeking volunteers for its 45th annual event which will take place at Sandy PointState Park on September 8-9, 2012. Volunteers receive admission to the Festival, free parking and food tickets. The Maryland Seafood Festival is also seeking non-profit groups to provide parking staff for the event on either Saturday or Sunday in exchange for a monetary donation to their organization. St. Mary’s Catholic Church English as a Second Language (ESL) Program
St Mary’s ESL Program needs volunteer teachers to teach English one night a week to adult ESL students for the Sept–May, school year. Our seven levels of classes are held on Tues., Wed., and Thurs. evenings, 7:00-8:45 p.m., at St. Mary’s High School in downtown Annapolis. Teaching experience and Spanish knowledge are helpful but not necessary. Treasure Hunters Clearing House
The Treasure Hunters Clearinghouse was established to connect caring adult volunteers to existing academic enrichment, tutoring and mentoring programs. The initiative recruits, screens, trains, matches, and supports these volunteers. The Clearinghouse is based on the Kids at Hope philosophy that says “all children are capable of success, No Exceptions!” The initiative is administered through the Volunteer Center For Anne Arundel County.
