This non-profit volunteer organization seeks volunteers, age 7 and up, to help with restoring, enhancing, and otherwise improving the Anacostia River watershed with projects including river cleanups, tree plantings, invasive plant removals, storm drain stenciling, and trash cleanups. Anne Arundel County Dept. of Social Services – Back-To-School Program
This program in partnership with the Board of Education matches donors to children from low-income families in local elementary schools by providing backpacks and school supplies. Donors (individuals, groups, and businesses) are sent information on the children and a list of needed supplies for the grade they are entering. School supplies are placed inside backpacks and need to be delivered to elementary schools during August each year. Anne Arundel Medical Center
Anne Arundel Medical Center, 2001 Medical Parkway, Annapolis, needs volunteers age 18 and over to work a wide variety of services in the hospital. Volunteers work in the Emergency Department, Gift shop, Reception Desks, Clothes Box (consignment store) and many other areas. Although most of the volunteer positions are during the daytime hours, there are some positions for early evening and weekends. The Arc of the Central Chesapeake
The Arc Central Chesapeake Region provides programs, services and advocacy for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Volunteers are needed to help with fund raising, assist in the office, with special events and for a variety of other tasks.
· 7:00-11:00 a.m., July 14, 2012, Fifth Annual – Run for a Reason 5K: The Bowen Foundation for Autism and The Arc Central Chesapeake Region are seeking about 20 volunteers to help with this fifth annual fundraiser. The Friends of Kinder Farm Park is a non-profit volunteer group of citizens working to enhance this county park in Millersville off of Jumpers Hole Rd. Volunteers are needed for the following project.

Baltimore Neighborhoods, Inc.
BNI is actively recruiting volunteer fair housing testers in Anne Arundel County. BNI is a 54-year-old statewide fair housing organization that fights against housing discrimination through outreach, education and enforcement of fair housing laws. To this end, we recruit and train people to test the housing market as secret shoppers. Though this is a volunteer position, we pay our testers a stipend for each test they complete and we reimburse them for mileage. Testing has proven to be a very effective method of exposing housing discrimination, and the work of these volunteer testers is truly essential to BNI’s mission. Training of testers will be held at BNI on Sat., Jul. 14, Tues., Jul. 31, Sat., Aug. 18, from 10:00 AM–12:30 PM, and on Thurs., Sept. 13, 2012 from 6:00 –8:30 PM. The organization’s mission is to promote optimal social, emotional, and mental health by providing accessible, innovative, and comprehensive individual, family, and group counseling as well as educational services to diverse communities. This nonprofit features projects that provide no-charge grooming services for individuals who cannot afford to attend the barber or beauty salon. Volunteers, minimum age 16 are needed for administrative tasks. Volunteer barbers and hairstylist are also needed to serve homeless and other needy persons in Odenton and surrounding areas. TEAM DNR
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking interested adults to become TEAM (Teaching Environmental Awareness in Maryland) volunteers. The volunteers’ mission is to educate students about the Chesapeake Bay and other Maryland environmental issues. Volunteers should have an out-going personality and a strong desire to protect the Chesapeake Bay. No prior teaching experience is necessary. Currently, TEAM offers schools-free classroom programs on the following topics: Chesapeake Bay Watershed, Streams, Oyster Reefs, Horseshoe Crabs, and Chesapeake Watermen.
