Actors, Flesh And Felt, Take The Stage For ASGT’s “Avenue Q”

Next up at the Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre is “Avenue Q”, a laugh-out-loud  musical about a recent college graduate named Princeton and the challenges and  breakthroughs he experiences as he starts out in life. The show runs Thursdays-Sundays at  8:30pm from July 5-July 29. Tickets are on sale now.

After moving into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q, Princeton meets Kate (the girl next door), Rod (the Republican), Trekkie (the internet sexpert), Lucy  the Slut (need we say more?) and other colorful types who help him discover his purpose
in life. Songs include “What Do You Do With a B.A. in English?” “Everyone’s a Little Bit  Racist,” “The Internet is for Porn”, “Purpose”, and many more.

ASGT’s talented cast of nine human actors from across the Annapolis, Baltimore,  Washington DC area is supplemented by a cast of eleven hilarious puppets, who help tell  the story “Sesame Street” style.

The puppets featured in ASGT’s production of “Avenue Q” were specially created for the  Theatre Alliance of Winston-Salem, which produced “Avenue Q” last season. They were  designed and handmade by Joseph Lopina, brother of the Alliance’s President and also the
head of animation at the North Carolina School of the Arts.

Director Darnell Morris and Choreographer Nicole Martin return to ASGT after  collaborating on 2011’s “Hairspray” and 2010’s “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling  Bee”. They’re joined by Music Director Joshua Konick, who is new to ASGT.

Please note this show is Rated R. “Avenue Q” is great for teenagers because it’s about real  life. It may not be appropriate for young children because Avenue Q addresses issues like  sex and drinking. Parents should use their discretion based on the maturity level of their  children. Tickets are $20 each and may be reserved by calling 410-268-9212. Tickets may also be  purchased online at www.summergarden.com. A $2 discount is available through the Eats  & Seats restaurant program (details on the ASGT website). Read more about the show at

Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre is an all-volunteer, non-profit community theatre at the City Dock in downtown Annapolis. The theatre is currently celebrating its 47th season of  “theatre under the stars”. Connect with ASGT on Facebook or Twitter.
