Hospitality Open House At AACC

Learn how you can become part of the growing hospitality field at a free open house at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at the Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism (HCAT) Institute at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC).

See student culinary demonstrations, discover some of the program’s unique features, such as its culinary internship at Italian resorts, and talk with both HCAT Institute and college advisers who can answer questions and help get you started in the program.

The HCAT Institute offers credit degree and certificate programs, continuing education certificates and personal enrichment courses. Its culinary arts team, Team Anne Arundel, regularly enters competitions. In addition, students can join the Chef’s Club that plans events to supplement culinary lab classes and a Hospitality Connections hotel and restaurant management group that specializes in event planning and business etiquette.

Growth in the hospitality industry has outpaced the overall economy for the past 12 consecutive years. It employs 10 percent of the national workforce and expects to add 1.4 million jobs in the next decade. The hotel segment of the industry is aided by having three Fortune 500 hospitality firms based in Maryland – Marriott, Choice Hotels and HMS Host. Growth in the state’s gaming industry is expected with Maryland Live! expanding this fall, two other gaming facilities already open and more planned. The industry also includes food service managers, food and beverage servers, chefs and cooks, event planners, caterers and employees at the many tourist attractions.

The HCAT Institute is located at 7438 Ritchie Highway, Glen Burnie. For information or to register, call 410-777-2398 or visit www.aacc.edu/HCAT.
