For more than 22 years the Light House has provided emergency shelter, transitional housing, food, clothing, eviction assistance and related support services to people by providing a place of belonging. They offer life-changing programs in a broad continuum of support for those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Late last month, they graduated 12 students from their BEST program.

The BEST program was started in 2010 with funding from a Ladders for Success grant from the community foundation of Anne Arundel County. BEST has become a core program at the Light House and builds job training skills to help their clients secure sustainable employment and permanent housing. Clients participate in a 12 week training program that includes one week of assessment three weeks of basic skills training, followed by a basic training and paid internships in specific disciplines including culinary arts, facilities maintenance, and soon to include data entry and retail.

Additional funding for the BEST program has been provided by the Hussman Foundation and the Friends of the Light House.
