MD Flags Lowered In Honor Of Fallen Marine. Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley ordered the United States and state flags be flown at half-staff in memory of a Marine killed in Afghanistan. O’Malley ordered the flags be lowered on Wednesday from sunrise to sunset in memory of Sgt. Julian C. Chase of Edgewater. The 22-year-old Marine was killed May 28 in Helmand province while conducting combat operations.

Anne Arundel County Health Department Issues Advisory.  The Anne Arundel County Department of Health has issued an advisory against swimming and other direct water contact at South River Heights in Riva because of high bacteria levels found in water samples collected June 12 and Monday. The beach, on the South River, is tested biweekly during the summer as part of the Department’s recreational water quality sampling program.

Baby Chimp Dies At Maryland Zoo.  The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is mourning a chimpanzee baby born to Joice, the matriarch of the Zoo’s chimpanzee troop. The baby, whose gender has not yet been determined, was born behind-the-scenes around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday and appeared to be healthy. “Joice is an experienced mother and the birth appeared to have been without complication,” stated Mike McClure, general curator at The Maryland Zoo. “Initially the baby was active and Joice was caring for the infant appropriately.”

Baltimore Teen Found Shot In Ellicott City. A Baltimore County 15-year-old was driven to a field in Howard County and shot in the head, police said. As doctors try to save the teen’s life Wednesday night, police are asking for the public’s help to find the shooter. Authorities said a nearby resident in the 11400 block of Frederick Road in Ellicott City found the teen lying in a nearby field, about 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. “I was walking to get the mail about 5:30 or 6 and I saw him lying in the side of the driveway,” a neighbor said.
