County Employees Charged With Stealing County Gas

Anne Arundel County Police Department

In April of 2012, the Anne Arundel County Police Department was contacted by the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks concerning a complaint that Recreation and Parks employees were involved in the theft of county fuel from county fuel sites. The complaint stated that specific employees were using county gas for personal use.

Detectives initially examined reports of county gas usage and found that certain employees’ gas usage was substantially higher than the average use.  These records were shared with Recreation and Parks Supervisors, who agreed that the usage was abnormal. This initiated a criminal investigation into the matter.

During the course of the investigation consisting of several interviews, it was revealed that two employees were taking county gas for use in personal vehicles. Both suspects were current employees of Recreation and Parks at the time of the theft. Both employees were charged with the below listed offenses and a criminal summons was issued for each employee and served on Tuesday, June 26, 2012.

Preston Walter Perry, 44, of 187 Main Street, Lothian, MD was charged with Theft less than $100.00. Jodie Frank Harbert, 44, of 412 Summer Wind Way, Glen Burnie, MD was charged with Theft Less than $1,000 and Theft Scheme Less than $1,000.

At the time of publication, we were unable to ascertain if the two were still employed by the County.
