5K For The Bay

On Saturday, June 16, the Chesapeake Bay Trust will host its first-ever 5K for the Bay at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis.  This 3.1 mile run/walk will start at 8:30 am with all proceeds benefitting Chesapeake Bay restoration and educational programs in Maryland.  In total, more than 250 runners are expected to attend this race, to be held rain or shine. Registration is $30 per runner, and kids 10 and under are free.  Leashed pets and joggings strollers are welcome and runners can register online at www.cbtrust.org/5KfortheBay.

“We are so excited about our 1st Annual 5K for the Bay,” said Molly Alton Mullins, the Chesapeake Bay Trust’s director of communications and race director. “This is a wonderful opportunity for the whole family to come out, get some exercise at one of Maryland’s most beautiful parks, and support a great cause we all care deeply about—restoring our beloved Chesapeake Bay.”

All race registrants will receive a tee shirt and water bottle, as well as other goodies with their registration fee and there will be prizes for the top two fastest male and female runners.  The Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company is donating coffee for the event, and Panera Bread is providing breakfast bagels.  ING Direct, Fleet Feet Sports Annapolis, Annapolis Irish Festival, 103 WRNR, G&G Outfitters and JEB Design have also supported this year’s inaugural race. Organizers for the 2012 Annapolis Half Marathon have been integral partners for the event, and the Bowie Baysox mascot “Rocko” will also be in attendance to start the race and motivate the runners.
