As part of the Geocache Ranger Rick family outdoor activity, Annapolis Recreation and Parks continues to host four geocaches placed in Truxtun Park. Each geocache was recently updated.

Geocaching is a growing phenomenon that combines a real-l

ife, outdoor treasure hunt with GPS-enabled technology. The geocaching activity located in Truxtun Park has a Ranger Rick wildlife theme and is the first to be implemented by the City of Annapolis. Ranger Rick is a children’s magazine published by the National Wildlife Federation (NWF). The activity is free and geared for kids ages 6-14 and their families.

“Geocaching has positive benefits for the user and the Recreation and Parks Department,” said Marisa Wittlinger, Environmental Programs Coordinator. “The activity attracts visitors to Truxtun Park who may not visit otherwise and searching for geocaches provides an interactive and wholesome recreational activity for families.”

Families start the adventure by going to www.geocaching.com/rangerricktrails. There they search for a trail within Truxtun Park, download and print the passport game sheet. Each geocache has its own page with information about the location and terrain used to find the treasure and coordinates for inputting into a GPS unit or Smartphone.
