Arts & Crafts Festival, Sat. & Sun., June 9-10, 2012

Volunteers are needed to work approximately 4-hour shifts for the Annapolis Arts and Crafts Festival 2012 which takes place at The Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on June 9-10. The event highlights Maryland Wine Week with 17 Maryland wineries pouring in the Wine and Specialty Food Pavilion. The event is sponsored by The Arts Council of Anne Arundel County and volunteers are needed between 9:30–5:30 on Sat. & between 9:30–5:00 on Sunday in a variety of positions including ticket sales, brochure handouts, liaisons in the Wine and Specialty Food Pavilion, wine glass purchase attendant, KidsArt children’s activities coordinator, and exhibitor liaisons. Baltimore Neighborhoods, Inc. (BNI)

 BNI is actively recruiting volunteer fair housing testers in Anne Arundel County. BNI is a 54-year-old statewide fair housing organization that fights against housing discrimination through outreach, education and enforcement of fair housing laws. To this end, we recruit and train people to test the housing market as secret shoppers.  Though this is a volunteer position, we pay our testers a stipend for each test they complete and we reimburse them for mileage. Testing has proven to be a very effective method of exposing housing discrimination, and the work of these volunteer testers is truly essential to BNI’s mission. Baltimore Washington Medical Center “Camp Airways”, Aug. 6-10, 2012, 9:00 AM–4 PM
Baltimore Washington Medical Center (BWMC) is sponsoring its Annual “Camp Airways” at Woods Presbyterian Church, Severna Park for children with asthma, ages 6–12. Junior counselor volunteers, age 15 and older, are needed to help with everyday activities and must be available to attend the camp for the entire week from 8:30 am–4:00 pm. Responsibilities include serving as a “camp buddy” for two assigned campers, assisting with arts & crafts, swimming, other outdoor activities, and more. Chesapeake Pride Festival, August 4, 2012

The Chesapeake Pride Planning Committee is a group of volunteers who put their time, skills, and enthusiasm to work in order to organize an annual “Chesapeake Pride Festival” in the Chesapeake Bay Area of Maryland. We are the only annual Pride event held in Anne Arundel, St. Mary’s, or Calvert Counties. Our mission is to foster an understanding of the LGBT Community in the general population by raising awareness through education and an annual Festival to ultimately achieve unity and harmony. Volunteers are needed for three-hour shifts on August 4th, 2012 to assist with running the annual Chesapeake Pride Festival, held at Mayo Beach Park. Volunteers can choose their own time slot and duties, including working the front gate, directing cars to parking, selling drinks, as well as set-up and break-down of the festival site. Also needed are volunteers interested in a larger commitment throughout the year to help with the overall planning of our yearly festival and other fundraising events. Friends of Anne Arundel County Trails

Friends of Anne Arundel County Trails is a non-profit 501(C)(3) organization of dedicated volunteers helping to promote, protect and enhance the multi-modal trails of Anne Arundel County. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities available for those willing to give a few hours a month, and both individuals and groups of volunteers are welcome. Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Foundation, Inc.

The mission of the Foundation is to spread Alex Haley’s vision of a world that celebrates ethnic diversity while honoring humankind’s common, universal experiences. Through educational and cultural programs, public forums and research, the Foundation is dedicated to stimulating greater interest in African-American culture, history, art, archaeology, anthropology, and genealogy, and to encourage people of all ethnic backgrounds to search for their own “roots”. Current volunteer needs include part time assistance with small library associated activities; e.g., receiving and processing books and periodicals; communications and nontechnical office work. Partners in Care

Partners In Care is an all-volunteer local nonprofit helping older adults remain independent in their homes. Drivers, receptionists, handymen, ride dispatchers, Life Line emergency response installers, and boutique workers–all are needed. No amount of volunteer time is too large or too small! Extensive experience is not needed: training is provided by Partners In Care for all positions. Treasure Hunters Clearinghouse

The Treasure Hunters Clearinghouse connects caring adult volunteers to existing academic enrichment, tutoring and mentoring programs located in the City of Annapolis.  The Clearinghouse is seeking interested individuals, aged 17 and older, to be trained and matched as a mentor or tutor with one of the programs partner organizations.  Mentors are required to make a year commitment and tutors are required to make a semester commitment.  All volunteer are also required to complete a background check, the price of which is covered by the Treasure Hunters Clearinghouse.  Interested volunteers please contact Sarah Litts at [email protected] or 410-897-9207 for an application today!

 

V-LINC

Volunteers with expertise in medicine, engineering and technology are needed to develop unique solutions that assist people with disabilities manage their daily life. Volunteers age 21 and up who are active or retired medical/rehabilitation professionals or those with engineering backgrounds are needed to assess disabilities and to design and build one-of-a-kind devices for clients with disabilities. ·         6/25-29/12 (Session 1) or 7/30-8/3/12 (Session 2) Computer Arts Summer Camps: The summer camp is a week-long, inclusive, full day camp for children with and without disabilities, ages 7-14. It features computer-based activities that teach creativity, independent thinking, presentation skills, and literacy in a friendly and structured environment Campers will also be able to explore their creativity through painting, drawing, and other arts and crafts activities. In addition, each day children have an opportunity to work at their own individual computer station programmed and configured for their specific needs, document the days’ activities using digital cameras, camcorders, and take part in various field trips.
