Teen Crash Survivor Presents Wake Up Call.  An Anne Arundel County high school plagued with crash-related student deaths is hoping a real-life story of survival will make a difference. In the past 10 years, 10 Chesapeake High School students have been killed in car crashes — three this school year alone. Tyler Presnell knows more than most about making bad decisions in a car. He was brought to the school to tell students his horror story. The 27-year-old from Oregon was 14 when he took the brunt of an 80 mph crash.

Anne Arundel School’s Extra $12M Requires Funding Shift. Anne Arundel County school leaders are about to decide how to spend an extra $12 million earmarked for students.  A week ago, the state school board agreed with the county that it had been shortchanged by $12 million. How that money will be spent is still being worked out, but some are asking if the sudden shift in money will hurt other county employees.

2 Dead, 1 Injured In Church Shooting.  Two people are dead and a woman is injured after a shooting in which the victims’ bodies were found in and around a Howard County church Thursday. Police said a custodian first discovered the bodies of two women suffering from apparent gunshot wounds inside an office at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in the 3600 block of Rogers Avenue in Ellicott City. Police helicopters provided support from the air as SWAT and K-9 officers entered the church shortly before 5:30 p.m., clearing the building.

Baltimore’s Top Cop To Leave. After 31 years of public service — five as Baltimore City police commissioner — Fred Bealefeld III will retire in the summer, WBAL-TV 11 News has confirmed. “This was a very tough decision for me and my family, but it’s now the right time for me to bring my career with the Baltimore Police Department to a close,” Bealefeld said in a statement released by the mayor’s office. “I am looking forward to enjoying retirement with my family and close friends.”
