Clark’s Gem Leads To Baysox Win

Zach Clark tossed seven shutout innings on Tuesday night as the Bowie Baysox (10-15) took down the Richmond Flying Squirrels (12-13) 2-0.

Clark struck out three, allowed just three hits and did not walk a batter in his second win of the season.  He needed just 77 pitches to get through seven innings and got 11 groundball outs.

The Baysox scored the only runs of the game in the third inning.  With one out, L.J. Hoes singled to extend his hitting streak to seven games.  Brandon Waring followed with a triple that scored Hoes for the first run of the game.  Then with two outs in the inning, Caleb Joseph singled to knock in Waring and give the Baysox a 2-0 lead.

Pat Egan replaced Clark in the eighth and pitched a scoreless inning.  Then Greg Burke pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his third save of the season.

Mike Kickham got the loss for the Flying Squirrels.  He lasted just 3.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits with four strikeouts and five walks.

Tomorrow in game three of the four-game series the Baysox will send RHP Tim Bascom (2-1, 3.56) to the mound to take on RHP Justin Fitzgerald (1-1, 3.76).

The Baysox return home on Friday, May 4 for a three-game homestand against the Akron Aeros that includes two fireworks nights.
